A few weeks back, TNT announced the identities of the nine participants for The Hero, and now you can see them in action; leaping, climbing, falling, crying – the works.

From the news item: “According to WWE physician Dr. Michael Sampson, Ziggler was injured during the early part of the fracas after a blow to the face. A post-match examination by WWE medical staff confirmed the injury.

“He [was] having some memory difficulties and a bit of a headache … he definitely has a concussion,” said Sampson. “We’re checking him out, and going to be doing neuropsychological testing and just keep it monitored.”

Though clinically Ziggler’s concussion was confirmed, the tests – which should yield results within the next couple of days – will provide WWE medical officials with a “baseline” from which to monitor The Showoff’s clinical and neuropsychological progress as time passes.”

A second Extreme Rules PPV match now in jeopardy in as many weeks. And so soon after Ziggler finally won the WHC. Suuuuucks.

UPDATE: According to WWE.com, Dolph said he “doesn’t remember Monday into Tuesday and was diagnosed with retrograde amnesia stemming from the incident.” As of now, alternate plans are being discussed for the WHC Ladder Match at the Extreme Rules PPV.

From the article: “WWE.com has learned that WWE Champion John Cena sustained an injury during WWE’s European tour. The WWE Champion injured his right Achilles tendon while battling Ryback. The injury raises questions about the scheduled match between Cena and Ryback at Extreme Rules on May 19. What lies ahead for the Cenation leader? Does this put Ryback one step closer to capturing the WWE Title? There are no details yet about Cena’s expected recovery time.

Almost immediately, because this news was posted by the WWE themselves (who have been known to put up fake stories for the sake of a storyline) fans questioned the legitimacy of the report. Not that the WWE hasn’t reported on their own wrestlers injuries before, but Cena is currently their top star in a high-profile feud with Ryback and this kind of news would effect PPV buys and the WWE’s overall economic profile. That being said, the Cena/Ryback program hasn’t been getting the crowd response that the WWE would like.

Also, depending on the severity of the injury, the WWE could have not mentioned this at all if Cena will be good to go for the Extreme Rules PPV. So if this is real, could the WWE’s decision to get out in front of the news be an indication that it’s a pretty bad injury? They even question whether or not the Cena/Ryback match will happen in their own blurb.

Cena’s been working a full-time WWE schedule for a decade and this could just be his body’s way of telling him to slow down. But it also might be a good cautionary tale for what happens when you wrestle in tennis socks and sneakers.
