Chris Rock on Gun Control
Chris Rock, who once famously said, in one of his HBO comedy specials, that guns should be free but that each bullet should be $5,000, offered up a new take on gun control while appearing at the TCA Press Tour as the executive producer of FX’s Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell.
Addressing the notion that people should be able to defend their homes, Rock said “Well, that’s the thing the gun lobby always says. ‘Well, people need the right to protect their property.’ But every mass shooting is done by a guy who lives with his mother. So I honestly believe you should have to have a mortgage to buy a gun.”
Once the laughter died down, Rock continued with “No one with a mortgage has ever gone on a killing spree. Because a mortgage is a real background check. They don’t just give mortgages out. And you know, if you go to jail for 30 years, you still have to pay your f***ing mortgage.”
