Though only mentioned as part of Sherlock’s tragic backstory, it was clear that we’d eventually have to see Irene Adler, even if it was just in flashbacks. Now we can put a face to the iconic name as Natalie “Joffrey Tamer” Dormer, currently portraying Margaery Tyrell on HBO’s Game of Thrones, will be portraying Sherlock’s one and only love.
Dormer is on board for a three-episode arc beginning May 9th.
“We’re moving to the next chapter in our show – and in some ways, to a previous chapter in Holmes’ story,” said Executive Producer and creator Rob Doherty. “Irene Adler is perhaps the most pivotal relationship in Sherlock’s life, and I can’t think of an actress better suited to the challenge than Natalie.”
Now we just need to find out who’ll be playing Moriarty.
