“I knew it was them or me.”

Whoa. Okay, so a nice, perverse twist right at the end there with the reveal that Abigail did in fact help her dad lure the girls into his murderous clutches. But what made it even better, in the sick and labyrinthine episode, “Trou Normand,” was that it all came out due to a very very subtle back and forth trust war between Lecter and Abigail.  Which started with Abigail consulting Freddie about a possible tell-all book and then Lecter figuring out that she, in an attempt to gain some control over the situation, dug up the body of Nicholas Boyle. Which, in turn, ruined any leverage he had over her – as kind and nuturing as he was about it.

What Abigail didn’t count on though was Will’s gift, now acting more haywire than ever, giving him some signs that Abigail killed Boyle, sending him over to Lecter’s to confirm. “We are her fathers now,” Lecter said to Will, looking for a sign as to whether Will was going to go along with keeping the secret…or if he’d have to quickly kill Will with a scalpel. And this all wrapped around on itself during a dinner where Abigail was able to pick up on the fact that Will knew her dark deed, causing her to break down and confess her real sins to Lecter. Expertly crafted stuff.

And, of course, in the end, Jack now doesn’t seem like such a harsh bastard for suspecting Abigail’s participation in the Shrike murders. It also clears up Abigail’s nightmares too, since she had all those dead girls sitting around her in the support group circle, blaming her for their deaths. We assumed it was simply because Abigail existed and inadvertently fueled her father’s madness, but now we know that she was directly responsible.

And yes, it’s hard to imagine Lecter and Will’s relationship ever recovering. Even as much as Lecter has proclaimed his concern for Will’s mental well-being over most everything else. I still feel like I need to be sold more on Will’s agreement of silence, being someone who’s so manically noble about most things. But, yes, it is weird now having Will see the esteemed Dr. Lecter in such a different, morbid light. Probably as much as it is for us to learn the truth about Abigail, as she was just as much our source of redemptive light as Will’s.  And now Will has gone from sleepwalking to losing time to full-on hallucinations of active classrooms.

Okay, so the giant, horrific human body part beach totem pole? Made up of 17 victims that spanned the course of forty years? Good lord, that was unsettling. And I thought nothing could beat mushroom garden in terms of “ick-factor.” Hell, I think I’d black out for three hours too if I saw that. Nice cameo by Millennium’s Lance Henriksen at the end as the killer who got off on remaining anonymous. There wasn’t much fanfare to his capture (compared to his crime scene), but it was still more satisfying than the Angel Killer’s suicide back in “Coquilles” since Will got to inform him that he had, unknowingly, murdered his own son.

Grade: B+

Here’s Tina, 14. And Tina has worked hard to get where she’s at with this guitar. And more importantly, she’s worked hard to be at a point in life where she can probably quit academics all together and just shred for the rest of her life. My favorite part is when she doesn’t even look at her fingers and is all like “thees eez so borreeng.” Don’t know why I gave her thoughts a French accent. Just seemed appropriate.
